For international business person, doing business in foreign countries will bring cross cultural problems/ challenges. people from different countries may greet people differently. this blog i will be discusses about Korean international greeting and meeting. Understanding ones cultural ways of doing things such as culture, attitudes and etiquette is a useful way of establishing good interpersonal relationships which can case the business process.
doing business with south Korean people and people from all over the world is dress code is very important. First impression in a suit and tie can show professional. Men and women greet each other with a slight bow, at a 30 angle the bigger the bow the more respect you give to that person. same people greet with 90 bows. in south Korean business culture women and men also use hand shakes as well.
Addressing people by their tittle and family name is important. Names can mean relationships has been establish, but it is best that you let your Korean business partner establish this change. Korean likes to carry business cards with them and hand them out to people. Having your business cards translated in the back can give you the advantage because people feel more comfortable seeing things in their own language. Giving gifts at the first meeting is to give favors and building relationships. Some people will bring food, some people will brings cigarettes or alcohol to show their kindness. Try to avoid giving expensive gifts because this will require the receiver to match the value when they reciprocate. when offerd a gift it is only polite to other some initial resistance. After second or third initial resisitance, it would be best to accept gifts are not usally open in front of the giver.
Most Korean like to meet between 10:00 am to 12:00pm or 2:00pm to 4:00pm. unless there are other requests, Korean people are busy and necrotic they may dun late so try not to bring up and negativity. being aware of the cross cultural. awareness in meeting attitudes and business protocol will always enhance your business trip and maximizing your potential at a business meeting.

ReplyDeleteGift-giving is a very complex thing in business; many American companies don't even allow their employees to accept gifts. It can make doing business overseas difficult!
